Bryce Downey & Lenkov LLC proudly welcomes Howard M. Turner, Julius H. Shapiro and Samuel H. Levine to the firm as Of Counsel. Howard, Julius and Samuel join our Construction practice, bringing decades of combined experience in mechanics lien and construction law.
All of them have extensive experience in construction and mechanics lien law, and have had an active role in proposing new laws, and amending the Mechanics Lien Act and the Illinois Construction Bond Act. Julius has authored and revised multiple chapters in books published by Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education (IICLE). Howard has also authored many articles on mechanics liens, and is the author of Turner on Illinois Mechanics Liens. The highly acclaimed book is sponsored by the Society of Illinois Construction Attorneys (SOICA) and published by the Illinois State Bar Association. Samuel contributed to Turner on Illinois Mechanics Liens, authoring its bankruptcy chapter. He has also written for IICLE handbooks on trial practice in mechanics lien cases, mortgage foreclosure issues and bankruptcy, and is currently part of Cook County’s mechanics liens pilot arbitration program.
All three new attorneys are members of SOICA, with Samuel serving on its board of directors.
Their additions brings the firm’s total SOICA count to eight, distinguishing Bryce Downey & Lenkov as the firm with the largest concentration of SOICA members in the state.
SOICA is an invitation-only membership that recognizes Illinois lawyers who are distinguished for their skill, experience and professional conduct in the practice of construction law. Members discuss social and economic forces affecting the construction industry, as well as laws that underlie construction processes. Attorneys must be nominated to join, and have practiced construction law for at least 10 years.
Bryce Downey & Lenkov Managing Capital Member Geoff Bryce was recently elected treasurer and previously served as secretary. Partners Margery Newman and Tina Paries, Of Counsel Werner Sabo and Jim Zahn are also members of SOICA. Werner is the author of Legal Guide to AIA Documents, a comprehensive guide to construction industry contract terms, drafting construction documents, and alternate approaches to common construction law problems. Margery, Samuel and Julius have all been heavily involved in legislation pertaining to amendments in the Mechanics Lien Act and the Illinois Construction Bond Act.
In addition to the eight SOICA members, Jeanne Hoffmann, Juan Anderson, Robert Bramlette, Joseph Eichberger, Tom Sarikas and Jennifer Cromheecke also practice in the Construction group.
