Yesterday, House Amendment 1 to HB782 was filed. The amendment extends the COVID-19 rebuttal presumption to 6/30/21.
As a reminder, HB2455 provides a rebuttable presumption that COVID-19 exposure arose out of and in the course of employment for first responders and front-line workers. The current law applies to employees who contracted the virus between 3/9/20 and 12/31/20.
The amendment would also extend various disability and death benefits for public police and fire employees due to COVID-19.
The legislation has already been sent to the House floor for a second reading. The Illinois General Assembly will meet from 1/8/21 through 1/13/21, when the new 102nd General Assembly is sworn in.
We expect the amendment to be approved and quickly signed by Gov. Pritzker.
